I'm very excited to announce that The Unseasonal and my work as a creative director have been honored by the Art Directors Club of New York with a prestigious ADC Award for Best Publication Design alongside The New York Times Magazine. The Unseasonal is also nominated for 2020's renowned German Design Award, presented by the German Design Council, one of the world's leading centers of design expertise, founded in 1953. Furthermore, I have been honored with two new MIFAs (Moscow International Foto Awards) — a second win for the magazine, and my fifth MIFA win in total.
Certainly, The Unseasonal and its "Prelude" issue arrived with a bang. Many stores around the world sold out quickly, a few on the first day. It is still available in some places, and remaining copies can also be shipped directly to your doorstep here.
The next issue and many exciting projects are in the works. I'm also thrilled to welcome Tamron and BenQ as new Pro Ambassador partners. Tamron's redefinition of the SP series has resulted in the launch of some exceptionally exciting prime lenses; and BenQ's professional monitors provide highly accurate color reproduction and performance for the most demanding applications. I'm looking forward to the ventures to come.

Thanks to climate change, this winter was unusually unpredictable all over the world and it certainly can be seen as one more reminder that we all share the responsibility to make our planet an inhabitable, peaceful and magical place for all forms of living and to pass it on to many generations to come.
With all the changes in seasons – both in fashion and the world – over the years room and cravings have grown for something new that reflects the zeitgeist. And after more than two years in the making there it is – a magazine about passion, the change in seasons, the unusual, travel, and the human condition. As a special projects magazine in print and digital, The Unseasonal features timeless pictorials, deep stories, and unique collaborations with some of the most creative and sought-after personalities in the fields of fashion, contemporary art and celebrity culture. It is of a rare artistic quality in times of fast fashion and social media madness. It represents the feeling of a getaway, of slowing down, of exotic places, escapism, breathtaking dreams, unique architecture, and lightness of being, all with elements from the past, the future, Romanticism, and impulses for making the world a better place. Iconic artistic photography and fresh writing are at its core. A new global voice by like-minded and some of the greatest talents that is here to stay.
Aside from countless other great projects and collaborations this winter, I'm also pleased to welcome Loupedeck as a new Pro Ambassador Partner and watch out for more behind-the-scenes stories linked to the just extended partnership with Seagate.
If in Los Angeles, make sure to stop by at the new West Hollywood Office+Studio close to the Grove. I wish you a fantastic year and hope that our paths will cross again.

This September came quickly and summer feels short. Looking back at the busiest summer ever, it will be very exciting to take the wraps off some major work this fall.
Meanwhile, work published with Vogue earlier this year received an award at this year's edition of MIFA - the Moscow International Foto Awards. I had the pleasure to work again with many outstanding talents and celebrities - among them also Stephen Spielberg's daughter Destry Spielberg for campaign work, Naomie Harris after the 2017 Oscar luncheon, and amazing new talent such as Dior's, Alexander Wang's and Saint Laurent's new Fashion It-Boy Black Atlass.
And on September 9, 2017, some of my more recent work can be seen as part of Cinema Photographique at the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna/A - one of the largest art premises in the world.

The world is facing turbulent times and it seems impossible to put feelings into words. But at the heart of each of us I strongly believe there is the desire for love.
Last year was the busiest year yet with many projects under wraps. These days I mainly work on carefully selected special projects and I try to give every project, every collaboration and everybody I surround myself with an unusual portion of attention, passion and love. This translates into the final work and into a life that is substantially different, more creative, detail oriented, deeper and really magical. Dreams between art and fashion with high standards and the means to take the breath away and to change people's views and the world. A world that can be beautiful, peaceful and enjoyable for everybody in it - for nature and mankind alike and my very own son who came into this world nine months ago.
My ambassador collaborations are these days even more carefully selected and I'm proud to have such wonderful partners on board. 2016 was also the year of restructuring digital archives - more than 750,000 photographs, 60,000 references and roughly 50 terabytes of core data assets. It has been great having Seagate on board and Drobo is the first new partner of 2017. And Marshall speakers keep everybody sane and happy - on set, in the studio, or in the great outdoors alike.
New editorial work has been published - much more to follow. An exhibition with Grazia & The Blonde Salad took place at the Triennale Museum in Milan in October and it came along with the book project release 'YOU - The Digital Fashion Revolution'. A solo pop-up gallery show 'Innocent Until Proven Guilty' will be on display in Los Angeles starting February 3rd, 2017.
If you feel our visions and values match we should sit down and see how we can collaborate and make the word an enjoyable place.

This will be a season of many special projects and unique collaborations and it has been kicked off with a bang with one with Dior.
The works on an extensive Photography Archive that began last year will continue and a wide range of work will be made available over time - timeless pictorials, personal projects, fashion productions as well as documentary, celebrity and conceptual work.
Last but not least I'm excited to announce a series of new Pro Ambassador Partnerships. I'm looking forward to very unique partnerships with some of the most admired companies in their industries: Pelican, Rosco and Godox. Much more to come but for now I wish you a PEACEFUL summer wherever you are on this planet.

Aside from campaign and personal work more recently published projects can be seen in Vogue, WWD, Autre, Beauty Inc, People Magazine, FAZ Magazine, P Magazine and Süddeutsche Zeitung to name a few.

It is about time to thank all who've supported me throughout the years, to thank the truly amazing teams, talents, and collaborators I've been honored to work with, and to say thank you to the collectors, curators, and editors for putting unconditional trust in me and my work every single day.
I'm looking back at one of the busiest years and at wonderful collaborations with Interview Magazine, L’Officiel, Condé Nast, Hearst, Harper's Bazaar, and many more. I'm grateful for being able to work with fantastic brands and all the talented artists behind them, and to create meaningful special and personal projects.
Enjoy the holidays and maybe see you at Art Basel Miami Beach next week.

It is certainly a nice surprise that I was named second year in a row winner of the PDN award 'The Look'. After Leica I'm also pleased to welcome a new SS16 seasonal partnership with Wotancraft. It is a true pleasure to see how they share the same endless passion and keep an eye on details. They really care and offer a rare quality and customizations I haven't found in other professional designer photographer backpacks to date.

Named this year's winner of the PDN award 'The Look' (Runway), another busy year is still unfolding. Collaborations and publications, both in Fashion and Art are continuous. More than 200 fashion shows have been captured on and off the runway this year, a collaboration with NASA is in development, and editorial projects are constantly in the works. Finally, I'm also happy to welcome Seagate, the world's leading manufacturer of disk drives, as a sponsor.

After capturing more than 40 fashion shows and backstage moments with my own perspective at New York Fashion Week again earlier this month, Paris Fashion Week RTW FW14 is next, Feb 25-Mar 5. A partnership with Leica has been formed as well. The pre-announced portfolio update coming later this year will for the first time also show a selection of this huge body of work that arose at runway shows worldwide.

2013 was an insanely busy year. Exhibitions in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Santa Ana, and Vermont. Photography awards. A stage video production for the Theater Basel, Switzerland. Work in the California desert has been continued.
Documentary work, capturing Terry Richardson, Mario Testino, Coco Rocha, Paris Hilton, Naomi Campbell, Karlie Kloss, Grace Coddington, the designers with their collections, and many more at Fashion Weeks throughout the year. Coverage of more than 80 fashion shows all access, and America's Next Top Model backstage. Working on many fashion shoots and collaborations with amazing talents.
I also gladly accepted the offer to lead the digital arts and photography lab, and to teach at Claremont Graduate University's MFA art institute in Southern California.
And finally, following an invitation for a truly unique STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the year brought first meetings in Boston.
A major website overhaul is in the works to reflect the developments of the last years. It will then include more recent media art projects, and also a first glimpse of the new body of fashion work. Although more and more of my works are evolving at the intersection of art and fashion, on the website both fields will be divided into two separate sections to make it easier to explore only the one or the other.
I'm looking forward to an exciting new year filled with dreams, passion, and good madness.

I'm on so many exciting projects right now that I barely find time to post some updates. Also, I would love to share many more details but unfortunately some projects are in too early stages or collaborations I'm not yet allowed to talk about. [Did I mention 'exciting'?!] For me this is definitely the year of collaborations in fashion, arts, and science, and of concretizing the roles of natural environments/deserts and their juxtaposition to patterns of civilization/cities in my work.
Repeatedly, I find myself also focusing on the line between non-destructive/non-intrusive and destructive/intrusive. One of many works based on this theme is the ongoing 'Dressed Landscape' body of work creating visual interventions by ephemeral non-invasive means.

Some recent documentary series: Backstage/runway shots with America's Next Top Model at LAFW AW 13/14 and with designers also part of Heidi Klum's current Germany's Next Top Model cycle at LAFW SS 13. - With a view on the collisions of the protagonists of fashion shows.
I also feel honored to be nominated for Black & White Photographer of the Year 2013 at the WPGA.

An assignment for the Theater Basel in Switzerland has been completed earlier this month and premiered on Feb 8, 2013. The production of this video on stage work for 'Like a Rolling Stone' started last December in Southern California deserts and is projected onto an oversized video backdrop.
The kind of integration/interaction between elements on screen, the actors, and the set design on stage makes this project very special. The shoots on the ground and in the air resulted in countless hours of footage, involved driving of many vintage cars, new Dylan interpretations as well as desert road movie sceneries and sixties aesthetics.

Upcoming exhibitions and new projects keep me busy just as the ongoing wrap-ups of the works from Joshua Tree. Photography work is on display at the OCCCA [Orange County Center for Contemporary Arts], as part of a group show starting today, Dec 1, and running through Jan 12, 2013. Some other work is also part of the new 'Landscape' issue of F-Stop Magazine, out today.
The first three conceptual series from JT can be seen here: Mirrored, Parking in the Park as well as the much acclaimed Tree Lightings. More to come.

A small selection of my daily diary notes from the first five weeks at the JT Highlands Artist Residency is now available for download. The JT Diaries read by the program's curators Jim Berg and Frederick Fulmer in their kitchen made their first appearances as an installation at the JTHAR exhibition in August. A limited edition of the whole diary in form of an audio book is set to be released in November.
This high desert environment had a great impact on me and I expect influences showing up in my works for years. It was also an incredibly productive time and it was an honor to be invited to extend the residency - not far away at the Rieman's guest house - for another six weeks. Now back in Los Angeles more details about the body of work in JT will be presented over time and some of the works are still ongoing.

I'm very proud of each of my sponsor partners and continuos relations with them. It's important to say that partnerships are only established with some companies producing very unique or high class products I'm absolutely convinced of their quality and value for my artistic processes and demanding productions. They are all carefully hand selected. Now it's time to announce some new partnerships.
A partnership with MaxBotix originally reaches back to 2006 and I'm excited that it has been renewed in June now and extended to use many more of their sensors and modules in upcoming works.
I also welcome Electrotap as a new sponsor. Their high-speed interface 'Teabox' f.i. has already been an integral part in some of the SOUND NOMADS performances in Israel before.
Last but not least I'm happy to have iWorkCase on board. Their riggid solutions for laptop use in extremes like the desert will be unvaluable. Their workstations are in use by many leading photographers, studios, and movie productions worldwide.
Finally, thanks for some support from Sekonic and MAC Group.
And a very special thanks goes to all people who supported the current artist residency on Kickstarter.

I was awarded an artist residency at Joshua Tree in California for July-August 2012. Today is day 4. This represents an exceptional opportunity to work in this high desert environment which is for me incomparable to anything else and a truly unique source of inspiration. During the residency interdisciplinary studies/experiments and a new series of site-specific works will arise.
