13. Dezcall: ACRE TV: Were the Eye Not Sunlike >>Call for entries : 1 February 2015 ACRE TV program: Were the Eye Not Sunlike Were the eye not sunlike, how could we behold light? – Goethe, Zur Farbenlehre Were the Eye Not Sunlike is an ACRE TV program to take place in April of 2015. Inspired by the long dark winters in Chicago, this program focuses on the sun at a time when it is missed the most, moments before springtime. As an object that is both illuminating and unseeable, the experience of the Sun is dominated by metaphor and myth. Were the Eye Not Sunlike channels the mythologization of the Sun and our relationship to its immeasurable power. This program studies light, color, optics, daily routine and mysticism through a close examination of the sun. The two month ACRE TV program will be structured into three separate programs whose framework relies on the sun’s progress throughout one day: Sunrise, High Noon and Sunset. We are accepting submissions for each of the three parts. Part One, Sunrise, conjures ideas of ritual, intimacy, latent potential, stillness, crispness and quiet, and its associated programing will reflect these more inward states. Part Two, High Noon, transitions into the full experience of solar warmth with a program revolving around optical possibilities, high contrast, light studies, and color. Part Three, Sunset, enacts the twilight haziness that signals the end of the earth-bound day. Melancholy, impending darkness, the green flash, and terrible beauty will conclude the program. Please visit http://www.acretv.org/calls/ for submission guidelines. Proposals due by 11:59pm CST February 1st, […]

07. Dezcall: Paraflows X – Digital Migration >>Call for entries : 15 February 2015 paraflows .X – DIGITAL MIGRATION paraflows turns 10. To survive you have to be versatile, to adjust, and to evolve. Migration describes the flow of transformation. Migration applies to everything from the smallest of cells to the entire planet. It is a fundamental pace. Change, development, and shift of language, place, and medium, are at the centre of Paraflows .X – DIGITAL MIGRATION. Translation of contents, transposition of the pitch, headlines, subtitles, any and all topics and fields have long been made compatible with art. Reminiscences to everyday life are made, research is done abroad, and the artists present their experiences coloured by their own filters to an off-context audience in off-context places. The rising number of worldwide artist in residence-programmes demonstrates what role is accredited to the mobility of artists and how highly valued the influence of every visit abroad is. New worlds are unclosed and movements across borders are encouraged. Yet, migrant strategies are not just expanding in the physical space but also in media spaces. More than ever before, real space spreads out into the digital space. Therefore, the field of migration is expanded by networks and data carriers. What share of communication is held digitally? Which pictures go around the world? Media art is getting long in the tooth. What happens to a system and to hardware when new platforms and programmes take over? What happens to art that depends on historical technology and was especially developed for it? How do we counteract ubiquitous […]

Dezcall: xCoAx 2015: 3rd International Conference on Computation, Communication, Aesthetics and X >>Call for entries : 18 January 2015 xCoAx 2015: 3rd International Conference on Computation, Communication, Aesthetics and X (June 2015, Glasgow) Dates: 25-26 June 2015 Location: Glasgow, UK Website: http://xcoax.org/ for submissions: 18 January 2015 Computational tools and media, from traditional computers and software to the latest wearable artifacts, sensors, haptic interfaces and more, have dramatically transformed the landscape of arts, design, and several other cultural forms. xCoAx is an exploration of this environment in the form of a multi-disciplinary enquiry on aesthetics, computation, communication and the elusive x factor that connects them all. xCoAx is meant as a hub for the exchange of ideas and the discovery of interdisciplinary and international synergies, with the participation of a diverse confluence of computer scientists, media practitioners and theoreticians working on the frontiers of digital arts and culture. Our focus has always been on critical and stimulating intersections: between the computable and the uncomputable, the communicable and the incommunicable, the chaos of creativity and the rules of algorithms, the human and the machine, in a constant search for new directions in aesthetics. The trail-blazing first edition of xCoAx took place in Bergamo, Italy in 2013 and was followed by an even richer 2014 edition in Porto, Portugal. They say “third time’s the charm”, and with such a past we could not be more excited for what’s to come. Topics: You are invited to submit theoretical, practical or experimental research work that includes but is not limited to the following topics: * Computation * Communication * Aesthetics […]

02. Dezcall: Exhibition in London – topic “Screen” >>Call for entries : 11 January 2015 Open Call For Artists: Bank Space Gallery Exhibition, Cass Faculty Of Art, London We are a London-based group of five young curators studying MA Curating the Contemporary at London Metropolitan University in partnership with the Whitechapel Gallery. We are inviting artists to submit works for an exhibition to take place on the 13th – 27th March 2015 at The Bank Space Gallery in Aldgate East. The show will mainly focus on the idea of “screen” and how it influences our everyday experience of and approach to the world. Since the screen became portable, this unavoidable tool mediates almost every interaction with external reality. Within a world of flat images, we handle and caress screens rather than touch objects, we text instead of talk and we browse instead of ask. The physical “one to one” relation we create with this tool might be inevitably associated with ideas of isolation and uncommunicative attitude. Nevertheless, it functions as our ever-present shelter for facing the world, a beloved solace to us in our endeavors. Open to all artists working with any media, this exhibition intends to explore our relationship with the “screen” and the impact it has on our everyday life, questioning the extent and the consequences of this reliance through the ideas of memory, simulacrum and identity. We invite you to investigate this “black mirror” as a contemporary, challenging and engaging concept and to go beyond the surface. The for submissions is Sunday 11th January 2015 at 12pm. Interested artists […]
